Public health officials tell us that the coronavirus is still viable on hard surfaces such as plastics after 72 hours. If shoppers continue to use reusable bags, they need to wash and sanitize their reusables to reduce the risk of spreading the pathogen.
If you are unable to ensure reusable bags have been properly sanitized, the most sanitary bag is the single use recyclable plastic shopping bag.

Polyester and Canvas Bags
Toss them in the washing machine, launder in hot water with detergent, then put them in the dryer.
Flip them inside out and wash them by hand in warm soapy water. If you prefer to machine wash them, use the gentlest cycle to prevent the bag from coming apart. Then, allow them to air dry.
